Cyanotype: A Photographic Process

Cyanotypes are beautiful blue photographs produced by exposure to the sun or any source of UV light. The development process is a fascinating combination of art and science, introduced in 1842 by Sir John F. W. Herschel, and practiced by Anna Atkins.

As we learn about Cyanotypes, you'll experiment with the process, play with subject matter, and learn to push the boundaries of composition and style to make highly artistic photographs. At the end of this hands-on class you will have beautiful blue prints, handmade book, an ornaments or greeting cards, depending on what’s offered in the workshop. You could leave with ideas of how to use your Cyanotypes in collages. You may even be inspired to make Cyanotypes on fabric or part of a multimedia project. The potential for what you can do with a Cyanotype is endless.
