Public Art Installation
Public Art Installations have been a goal in my art practice. I finally got the opportunity to be a part of a project during the Cambridge Science Festival in the Fall of 2023 and 2024.
Siena Construction of Cambridge is an active participant in the Cambridge Science Festival every year. As part of their commitment to community, they put together an interactive display using the Geodesic dome. They reached out to me to add the artistic element to the projects.
The science of the geodesic dome was combined with the art of Cyanotype pentagons in one installations. Visitors could interact with the Cyanotypes by changing the lights that were set up inside the dome.
The second installation required weeks of painting triangles that were executed on flat surfaces, to then be put together to form a globe. The sphere also doubled as a camera obscura, allowing viewers to experience the world in non-traditional ways.
The public installation process was an exhilarating and a challenging experience for me. I got a chance to talk to visitors about my work and my process as an artist. Their enthusiasm and engagement with my work was humbling. I was driven to keep providing these sorts of experiences for my local community, as I came to learn the importance of accessibility to art in its many forms.
